info
The Owner of this East Arlington two-family home came to us with a new hand-made tile mosaic, in the shape of a small circle, and a desire for a major change in their backyard.

With the mosaic as a starting point, we explored several design options before settling on a garden layout made up entirely of segmented circular arcs. Only the mosaic circle is complete.  Every other circle, such as those forming the edges of pathways, the shape of the deck, etc., are made up of segmented arcs on circular radii.  Spatially, our challenge was to create comfortable places for one or two to sit, while also allowing for a larger gathering for a party or barbeque.

We replaced the perimeter fence based on a design the Owner had in mind, and built a new deck.  The paths are peastone gravel and the seating areas are concrete pavers.

The Owner is a native plants enthusiast and avid gardener.  For this project, we prepared the planting beds with loam and organic compost and let her take it from there.
